From August 18 to August 23, 2019, the 15th International Academic Conference on the History of Science in East Asia under the theme of "Multicenter History of Science, Technology and Medicine in East Asia: Harmony and Difference" in Jeonbuk National Museum in Jeonju, South Korea University held.
The meeting was set up in three forms: conference report, sub-session report and round table. There were 300 sub-session reports and 4 conference reports. More than 300 scholars from about 20 countries including the United States, China (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao), the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan participated in the conference. At the opening of the meeting, Marta HANSON, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the East Asian Society of Science, Technology and Medical History, DongWon KIM, President of Jeonbuk National University, Ha-Jin Song, Governor of Jeollabuk-do, and Joon-shik SHIN, Chairman of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, Korea Myon-U LEE, Chairman of the Society of History of Science, Namil KIM and Dong Wong SHIN, co-chairs of the South Korean Local Organizing Committee, delivered welcome speeches.
During the meeting, Professor Togo TSUKAHARA of Kobe University, Professor Zhang Baichun, director of the Institute of Natural History of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Mei Jianjun, director of the Needham Research Institute, and Professor Li Jianmin, Academia Sinica, all gave reports at the conference.
On the afternoon of August 23, Ni Genjin and Guo Xinyi made the title "Critical History of Sericultural Science in 19th and 20th Century East Asia" 8-year-research (1930-1938) of GuiYingxiang, the Famous Korean Sericulturist, in Guangdong --- According to Chinese References ——Based on Chinese literature ”) The academic report used Chinese literature and archives to verify the invitations, reasons, and research contents and achievements of the famous Korean sericulture scientist Gui Yingxiang from Guangdong to Guangdong for 8 years. The evaluation of him with the Chinese academic community, and his deep friendship with Chinese scholars Yang Bangjie, Shen Dunhui, Ding Ying and his students in China. The research report was fully affirmed by the participating scholars. Professor Kim Bae-gen of Jeonbuk National University in South Korea believed that the report gave many very precious historical data. At the same venue, senior researchers Lisa Onaga and Jin Baeken from the Max Planck Institute made reports on the history of the difficulties encountered by Taiwan in developing silkworm and mulberry during the colonial period and the entire academic career of the silkworm scientist Gui Yingxiang. After the report, Ni Genjin, Jin Peigen and Lisa Onaga discussed with the scholars present at the discussion session the issues related to the development of the history of East Asian science during the 19th and 20th centuries. After the meeting, Lisa Onaga, Jin Peigen, Ni Genjin and Dr. Mao Chuanhui, director of the National Tsinghua University Institute of History, said that in the future, they will collect historical documents on sericulture science through email communication to help each other in subsequent research.
During the meeting, at the invitation of the Institute of Science, Technology and Civilization of Jeonbuk National University in South Korea, Ni Genjin held exchanges and discussions with 9 members of the institute. Director Dong Wong SHIN welcomed the arrival of Ni Genjin and Guo Xinyi, and introduced the history of the institute and the research directions of the members to the guests. Subsequently, Ni Genjin introduced the history of the China Agricultural Historical Heritage Research Institute of South China Agricultural University to the members of the institute and expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation. Dong Wong SHIN stated that the Korean Institute of Science, Technology and Civilization is publishing a series of books "The Science and Civilization in Korea" that unify the history of scientific development of Korean civilization and various important studies published in 13 volumes, expected to be published in 2020. If the book is fully published, the Korea Institute of Science, Technology and Civilization will send this series of books to the China Agricultural Heritage Institute of South China Agricultural University. Finally, Ni Genjin and Dong Wong SHIN signed a MOU to strengthen the future cooperation between the two institutions. In addition, during the meeting, Ni Genjin and Guo Xinyi also took a lunch break to visit the calligraphy exhibition, school history exhibition, collection of cultural relics exhibition, wildlife exhibition, plant exhibition and so on in the Peking University University Museum and the Natural History Museum of Jeonbuk University. North National University attaches great importance to the protection of historical relics and the promotion of popular science knowledge. Ni Genjin and Guo Xinyi also participated in a half-day investigation focusing on "Walking into the history of Jeonju" according to the arrangement of the meeting, visited Jeonju National Museum, Jeonju History Museum and Jeonju Hanok Village, not only from the perspective of cultural relics Entering the history of Jeonju, they also inspected the cultural tourism of modern Jeonju.
